We are offering a blue decorated 1 gallon stoneware jug stamped with its maker's name, New York Stoneware Co. According to "Collector's Guide to Country Stoneware", most crockery with this type of blue slip decoration dates from before 1840, because the companies found it to expensive to continue subbing this decorative process out to farm wives, as was the custom. So it is very possible that this jug dates previous to the Civil War. Other than two chips on the top rim (shown), there is no damage to this wonderful survivor from America's Pioneer days.
