Early Baseball Game Cards. Group of fou
Early Baseball Game Cards. Group of four from the "Polo Grounds" game, c. 1914, each showing a different player in sepia. On verso, bronze-green-tone panoramic photo of Polo Grounds as it looked then, within delightful ornate border with motif of baseballs. Showing future Hall of Famer (Eddie) Collins, Philadelphia Athletics (one crease at corner) (Tris) Speaker, Boston (crease at corner, one internal tear just touching dark background panel containing his photo) McInnes, Philadelphia (very fine) Russell, Chicago (one long crease across blank top). Printed on each card is a different play, e.g. "fast grounder to 3rd base - safe." All otherwise clean and fine, showing little handling. The Polo Grounds had recently reopened, following a disastrous fire; these cards were a subtle promotion for the new stadium.
