Francis Audley had been a harness maker in New York City until the invention of the automobile. Being somewhat foresighted, he entered the police supply business and opened a shop opposite NYC Police Headquarters. In addition to police supplies, he mfg'd holsters and invented a number of devices for police use. On Oct. 13, 1914, he was awarded a U.S. patent for the newly-design patent holster. His holsters featured an internal metal safety triggerguard lock. Audley mfg'd these holsters for approx. 19 months. On May 10, 1916, he died at age 67, and his business was acquired by H.D. Folsom Arms Co. Afterwards, the nomenclature to the back of the holster was changed to ''Folsom Audley Patent''. Condition is near excellent showing just light minor scuffs. Trigger safety devise with wear and losses to nickel platin!
