Early Argentine Presidential Presentation DWM 1900 Commercial Luger Semi-Automatic Pistol with Gold
DWM 1900 Commercial Luger pistol with the elaborate monogram "MT de A" inlaid in gold and platinum on the chamber. The "MTA" monogram is the initials of Marcelo T. de Alvear, 1868-1942. Alvear was the 20th president of Argentina from 1922-28 and a famous Olympic pistol shooter. The consignor states that this pistol was purchased from Marcelo Alvear's grandson in Buenos Aires. The pistol has a dealer rust blue finish that was applied when the gold monogram was inlaid on the chamber; the blue is indistinguishable in quality from the original factory finish. The small parts, including the trigger, magazine release, lock bolt, extractor and safety lever have a straw finish. The sear bar spring, grip screws and connecting pins have a niter blue finish. The grips are checkered walnut. The magazine has a plated, slant-cut body with wooden base. The pistol has the distinctive, old model toggle lock, grip safety and frame with no provision for a stock lug. The safety lever is engaged in the upper position and the lower safety lever position on the frame is polished bright. The DWM script monogram is roll-stamped on the front toggle link. The serial number, "3017" is located on the front of the frame and the underside of the barrel. The partial serial number "17" is stamped on smaller components. All of the visible serial numbers match. The underside of the barrel is stamped with German commercial "Crown/B", "Crown/U" and "Crown/G" proofmarks. "Crown/B" and "Crown/U" proofmark are stamped horizontally on the left side of the frame and the left side of the toggle links and a "Crown/U" proof is stamped on the right side of the breechblock.
