Early Ames U.S. Ames Model 1832 Foot Artillery Sword with Springfield Address
U. S. Model 1832 Ames Foot Artillery sword manufactured by N.P. Ames and marked with the early, "Eagle and Shield/N.P.Ames/Springfield" address on the reverse ricasso. The obverse is stamped: "United/States/1833/S". The underside of the brass guard is marked:"S". Hose" identifying the foundry that cast the guard, for the early Ames swords. The sword has the distinctive Roman Gladius style 19" triple fuller blade. With cast brass feathered grip, cross guard and pommel with Eagle and Shield. Four notches are cut into the underside of the guard. The sword is complete with the original leather scabbard with brass throat and tip.

Very good. The blade has an attractive grey patina with smooth surfaces, good edges, crisp markings and no pitting. The hilt is in very good condition with a mellow age patina. The scabbard is in fair-good condition with some age cracks and minor repairs on the leather body and a dark patina with some minor dents on the tip and drag.
