Early American Pennsylvania curly maple rocker c1750.This early country rocker measures 38 and one half inches to the top of its back, 17 inches across its front, 14 inches across its back and 15 and one half inches to the top of its seat. Excellent condition including the rush seat. Both side rails have pronounced curly maple. This always was a rocker, not cut down from a chair. American country five slat back rockers are unusual and hard to come by. To see a similar example and reference to this form being original see The Rocking Chair an American Institution by Walter A. Dyer and Esther S. Fraser 1928 page 25. This rocker is also quite comfortable.
