Early American Document Signed by William Livingston. This 7" x 8.5" document is signed by William Livingston, one of the representatives from New Jersey at the Constitutional Convention. He was a well-known lawyer and renaissance man whose home was the center of social activity in early colonial times. The document is of a legal nature, and appoints a David Brearley to Chief Justice of New Jersey. Livingston was the governor of New Jersey from 1776 till his death in 1790. The document featured is a wonderful example of early American politics, being carried out by the very men who were responsible for our right to self-govern. The document is in good condition; the left edge has some staining near the centerfold; there are several areas of foxing in upper right corner; slight soiling present over the entire letter, but writing and signature are bold and crisp. From the Henry E. Luhrs Collection. Accompanied by LOA from PSA/DNA.
