Featured in this lot we have a Indian katar thrusting dagger originating from the early to mid 1800's. The katar is a unique style of trusting/ push dagger originating from Southern India in the 14th century. For most of the 17th century till the 19th century the katar was seen as a status symbol and was often shown in portraits of princes and other nobility. The katar is interesting style of dagger showing a wide triangular blade with a "H" like handle allowing the blade to rest just in front of the users knuckles. The piece shows iron construction that has been forged into one piece. The blade shows a wide triangular shape with a center core and a bulge at the end. The handle shows two grip beams allowing for an easier hold. The piece shows good condition overall with some wear due to age. The katar measures 15 1/2" long overall with a 9" long blade and the handle measures 2 3/4" wide.
