American Light Artillery or Dragoon Officer's saber c. 1815-1840. The saber has a gold-plated brass hilt with bird's head pommel, stirrup-shaped knuckle bow, down-turned quillon and leather covered wire wrapped grip. The curved 31 1/2-inch blade has a single un-stopped fuller and is decorated with a 16-inch niter blue panel with gold washed engraving. The engraving on the reverse of the blade consists of a liberty cap and floral sprays with "WARRANTED" near the ricasso, a Federal eagle and shield motif with "E PLURIBUS/UNUM" in a ribbon and a floral spray. The reverse of the blade is decorated with military trophies surrounded by two floral sprays. The black leather scabbard has brass mountings with gold-plated throat and suspension band.

Condition: Very good. The brass hilt retains approximately half of the gold plated finish and the leather covered grip is in excellent condition with all of the fine wire wrap intact. The very fine blade has 60% of the original polish and niter blue finish intact with scattered patches of light pitting and age discoloration. About 50% of the gold wash is present on the engraved portion of the blade. The leather scabbard is missing the brass tip. The throat and suspension band have about 50% of the gold plated finish. The scabbard body has scattered cracking and flaking but no significant damage other than the missing tip.
