Early 1970's John Riggins Game Worn Jersey
Early 1970's John Riggins Game Worn Jersey. This superstar running back toppled Hall of Fame great Gale Sayers' collegiate career rushing record at Kansas, then stormed into the NFL where he twice earned the Jets MVP Award during his five seasons of service. Presented is a fantastic nylon durene gamer from the New York Jets' first pick (and sixth player overall) in the 1971 draft. In all probability, this shirt can be dated to the 1971-73 era, suggesting the very real possibility that this is a rookie model. Riggins' number "44" is applied in green tackle twill to the white body on chest and back, with the coloring reversed at the sleeves. "Riggins" stands in two and a half inch block across the shoulders. The heavy weight of the jersey would have made it appropriate only for cold weather games, and the moderate wear is further indication of its limited use. The original crotchpiece is in place, as are five of its six buttons, and the dual "Sand-Knit" tagging resides here, expressing "Jets Exclusivity" and the proper "Size 52." A moderate degree of staining throughout must be noted, and a six by nine inch area of excessive material wear that has given this area a translucent quality. These faults are just a small distraction, however, and the visual strength very successfully matches the considerable historical appeal. A marvelous early representation from the Hall of Famer and ultimate short-yardage workhorse. LOA from Lou Lampson.

Shipping: Clothing, Costumes & Jerseys (view shipping information)
