Early 1970's Joe Namath Game Worn Jersey. Pavin
Early 1970's Joe Namath Game Worn Jersey. Paving the way for brash young gunslingers like Jim McMahon and Brett Favre, Joe Namath brought a dynamism and charisma to the quarterback position that was unlike any that had preceded him in the professional game. His flowing mane, fu manchu mustache and bold Super Bowl predictions endeared him to a new generation of football fans, and served as a very real catalyst in elevating the game of football to its current position as the number one spectator sport in America. Those growing up in the early 1970's will recognize this green mesh jersey as if it were a long-lost friend, its bold and simple aesthetics instantly recalling that exciting period in gridiron history. Namath's number "12" is screened in white to chest and back, with contrasting green numerals commanding each white sleeve. Two and a half inch tall white block lettering spells "Namath" across the shoulders. The simple "Champion Products Inc. [size] L" label in the tail appears to have been applied in error, as the jersey measures more closely to the proper 46-48 XL range. Namath's preferred four inches of extra length is likewise present and correct here. The wear is light, but appropriate for the quarterback position, and a 9/10 black sharpie signature upon the chest further serves to authenticate the piece. A definitive and unmistakable artifact of the early 1970's game. LOA from Lou Lampson. LOA from PSA/DNA (autograph).
