Richard Nixon typed letter signed as a candidate for California's 12th congressional district in 1946, his first candidacy for elected office. Letter to a campaign volunteer bears Nixon's Whittier, California address and closes with his autograph inscription, ''Frank - Just to keep you posted! Regards / Dick''. Typed letter bears Nixon's printed signature and displays a chart of the results from the 1946 primary election between Voorhis, Nixon and Kinnett. In part, ''...The results of the primary election definitely indicate that we can win in November. We have, however, a real job cut out for us because, as you know, Mr. Voorhis has been endorsed by the National Political Action Committee. In order to defeat such a well organized minority pressure group it will be necessary that our corps of volunteer workers take advantage of every opportunity between now and November 5 to win voters away from the discredited policies of the New Deal Administration which Mr. Voorhis has consistently supported...'' Single-page letter measures 8.5'' x 11''. Toning, creasing and some smudging to left margin. Very good.
