<B>Early 1940's Bobby Layne High School Game Worn Jersey.</B></I> Beloved as much for his free-spirited ways off the field as he was for his remarkable Hall of Fame talent that led the Detroit Lions to three divisional crowns and two NFL titles, Layne remains one of the Motor City's top sporting heroes. Here we present a gamer worn twelve hundred miles south of his home as a pro, as the quarterback for his Highland Park High School squad in Dallas, Texas. Certainly one of the earliest Layne gamers known, this jersey is one of two high school representations--the other is in the Texas Sports Hall of Fame. Those willing to make the trip to Waco will note that the size and number "86," found on front and verso of this heavy cotton knit gamer, are identical to the offered specimen. Wear is very strong, as the jersey was likely worn over a number of seasons by the future legend. There is no labeling, but a significantly frayed size "38" tag in the collar is correct for Layne.
