Early 1906 DWM Dutch Contract Luger Pistol
This is a fabulous example of a very rare early 1906 Dutch contract luger as produced by DWM for the Netherlands. The Netherlands like the Swiss were faithful users of the German Luger pistol with several orders being placed with DWM over the years. Examples are fairly rare in this country and especially RARE with the Significant level of finish such as this example displays. These pistols are very distinct in that they have "GELADEN" marked on both sides of the extractor, a brass unit ID tag fixed to the side of the frame that was applied after receipt by the Dutch and the safety area is marked "RUST" in-lieu of "Gesichert" on the German models. They have the same 1906 style frame with the grip safety with no provisions for a stock lug with all other features being the same as on the German models. The serial number of this pistol places production fairly early in the production run. The top of the chamber is blank and the toggle is marked with the DWM logo. The barrel extension is only marked with the small Crown over the letter "W" for Wilimenia and the underside of the barrel has the frame serial number with a small rework proof underneath that. The top of the barrel is stamped "1939" which indicates the year that this specific pistol was refurbished by the Dutch and it has the correct late style coarse checkered replacement grips that were also installed during the refurbishment. Both of which are correctly numbered (matching) on the back side of each grip panel. It is complete with one original Dutch magazine that has a nickel plated body with a wooden base similar to a WWI navy model but without the circular rings. The pistol has an all rust blued metal finish with straw colored small parts with the coarse checkered walnut grips.
BBL: 4 inch round
Stock:
Gauge: 9 mm Luger
Finish: blue
Grips: walnut
Serial Number: 2671
Condition: Arsenal refurbished with 95% of the semi-matte, Dutch armory refurbished blue finish with just a hint of wear on the front edges of the frame, the side plate hump and the very front edges of the muzzle. The smaller parts retain 60% of their straw color with most of the finish loss and wear on the front of the trigger itself. The grips are also in excellent condition with nice sharp checkering overall with just a couple of nicks with no cracks or damage. The wooden base of the magazine is also in excellent condition. The pistol has all matching numbers, except for the magazine which is unnumbered and the front link (which was renumbered on the underside during the refurbishment process). Even though this pistol has gone through a refurbishment process that in no way diminishes the value of this rare Luger, as most you see, saw considerable service and are beat to hell and were never refurbished at all. Just a superb example of a rare Dutch contract luger.
