Early 1900 Inuit Billiken Tusk Scrimshaw Carving
This is an original Inuit or Eskimo carved Billiken from Walrus Tusk with scrimshaw features dating to the early 1900's. The piece is carved from the end tip of a Walrus Tusk, its noted by Alaska Fur Exchange that most are carved from ancient walrus tusks which this appears to also be. The Billiken is considered Alaska's good luck charm and first appeared around 1909. This piece is drilled at the top and shows scrimshaw features. Throughout you can see the deep color from its ancient age and wonderful grain only found on tusks. Measures overall 1.75" by 1". Due to the ancient age of the tusk and antique age of the carving done by an Inuit Eskimo Native American Indian this piece is perfectly legal to buy and sell and follows all applicable local laws, please check your state or countries laws before bidding.
