Early 18th century flintlock horseman’s pistol in Dutch style with brass lock, barrel and mounts remaining in near fine original condition. The pistol measures 21” overall with 13 ½” barrel of approximately .58 caliber smoothbore. Although unsigned on the exterior the pistol is very good quality showing a well decorated barrel with fancy molding and ribbing. The side plate is in a scroll design. The lock shows a banana style shape with early pan. The stock is nicely raised carved and molded around the forend. The pistol is in near excellent condition with all original flintlock parts just a slight bit of beginning age and a very nice uncleaned patina. The wood is fresh and crisp and completely original showing almost no signs of use. The ramrod is metal tipped and is of the correct age and period. The form and style typical of this pistol resembles arms made in Holland and the low lands area of Europe. We would date pistol 1700 to 1730. Est.: $4,000-$8,000.
