Six different stereoviews from five different photographers showing different time periods and the evolution of this central piece of Salt Lake City architecture. 1) View of gate with seven men in front, one on top of a penny-farthing. Medium contrast, no photographer identified. 2) Another view without a photographer, but the gate foundations have changed, and there appears to be rail lines. Low to medium contrast with soiling. 3) View of the gate by The New York View Co. Gate is different than in previous two. Med. contrast with soiling. 4) Different view by C.W. Carter, Carter's View Emporium. Snow on the ground, show from the opposite angle and previous three, and two men are standing in front. Low to medium contrast with stains. 5) View by J.J. Reilly and J.P. Spooner (of Stockton). No. 390--Brigham Young's Residence. Farther back view than previous four. Good contrast. 6) View of Brigham Young's residence. Gate not in view. No photographer identified. Medium contrast. The Eagle Gate was built in 1859 to commemorate the entrance to Young's property. It measured 76 feet across and has been renovated/remodeled many times.
