NAVY LUGER SEMI-AUTOMATIC PISTOL. Cal. 9mm Luger. S# 51304. Bbl. 6". 1 of only approx. 2,500 Pre-War Model 1906 Navy Luger semi-automatic pistols mfg. by DWM for commercial sales (S# range: 25050-65000), according to "Lugers at Random" by Charles Kenyon Jr. The underside of the bbl. exhibits Crown over "B", "U", and "G" commercial proofs, with the left side of the bbl. extension exhibiting Crown over "B" and "U" proofs. Left side of the breechblock is marked with a Crown/B proof, with a Crown/U proof marked on the left side of the forward toggle link. Toggle is marked with the intertwined DWM monogram. Metal components exhibit an older, but nicely reapplied blue finish, with the trigger and hold-open latch exhibiting a reheated straw finish. Frame is mounted with 2-piece checkered wood grips, and features a grip safety. Marbles No. 6 brass beaded blade front sight, with Navy pattern V-notch rear sight, graduated 100-200. Nearly all serialized parts are matching in the proper "hidden" commercial fashion, and include the frame, takedown lever, sideplate, grip safety, bbl., bbl. extension, breechblock, and toggles. Trigger has been renumbered at one time. Left grip is unnumbered, with the right grip numbered "75". Ejector is an imperially proofed replacement. Grip safety spring is absent. MAGS: 1 plated 8-rd. mag., with unmarked concentric circle bottom. CONDITION: metal components retain the majority of their reapplied blue finish, exhibiting some areas of wear and thinning that show through to gray patina, some spots of light surface oxidation, as well as some scattered spots of light to mild pitting, which is present both above and below the finish. Takedown lever, safety lever, and ejector retain traces of their original straw finish, with the balance retaining a gray patina and scattered spots of age related discoloration. Bore is bright, as refinished, exhibiting consistent mild pitting and some small spots of dark pitting, while retaining strong rifling throughout. Left grip is very good, showing some smoothing, as well as some scattered marks and minor impressions from handling and storage. Right grip exhibits smoothing, with chip present on the bottom right corner and a large crack present on the right side of the panel on both the interior and exterior. A very rare example of a Pre-War DWM Model 1906 Commercial Navy Luger. (25-2027/MLW). CURIO. $1,000-1,500.
