Made of individual slats of wood with an iron frame. Has some letters hand carved on each side of the body - C W E D J W H . The mouth piece is not present. There is a manila paper typed tag that reads 'This old wooden soldiers water canteen was carried by your Great Grandfather Samual during the ending months of the great war of the rebellion. Great Grandpa Samual Arms was a refugee slave only twelve years of age when he experienced what was to later become known as General Shermans march to the sea. He became an unpaid drummer boy and traveled camp for some time with the yankees and always told tales of his adventures as a boy soldier. This canteen was picked up by him from a rebel who no longer needed it. Moses Arms Savannah 6/5/23. EXTREMELY RARE. A fantastic original piece of history.
