<B>EXTREMELY LARGE STALACTITIC GEODE - A GRAND "PORTA JOIA"</B></I><BR> <I>Artigas, Artigas Department, Uruguay</B></I><BR>"Porta Joia" is Portuguese for jeweled gateway and these extraordinary geodes have an endless sea of gems sparkling inside waiting to be unlocked. For millions of years, their glistening interiors remained hidden and masked by a rough rock exterior - with no hint of the wonders that lurked on the inside. This fine "Porta Joia" is not only immense but it is filled with sparkling quartz crystal stalactites. Seldom are geodes found in this size, let alone with a profusion of stalactites. This "Porta Joia" has been cut open and polished to reveal the plethora of crystal formations. Mounted on a custom wood base, the "lid" is mounted vertically so that both the top and bottom can be viewed simultaneously. The "Porta Joia" bowl measures 30 x 18 ½ x 5 inches high, while the lid measures 28 ¾ x 17 x 3 inches high.
