EXTRAORDINARY PAIR 1850S ERA GLASS EYED PAPIER MACHE DOLLS.
Exceptional couple dressed as Bride and Groom from the early 1850s with the girl having center part hairdo, with front of ears exposed and shoulder length hair in back with 12 vertical curls. She has a firm cloth body with thin white kid arms bent at the elbow with individually stitched fingers. The lace covered bridal costume is all original and she wears tiny fitted white leather shoes; at her waist is a corsage made of cloth flowers. The Bridegroom has short hair with wispy curls framing the forehead, extremely well painted showing all the comb marks; ears are exposed. He has a firm cloth body with white leather kid arms with separately stitched fingers and wears a two piece black wool tuxedo with short tails in back and six large buttons on the front of the jacket. He has a finely pleated white linen shirt with high collar and white silk tie as well as a heavy silk under vest. The shoes are antique black leather with tan soles with white cotton stockings. Also included is a fine period formal top hat. Both dolls have inset dark glass eyes. SIZE: Bridegroom 22" (55cm) (not including hat). Bride 20" (51cm). CONDITION: Very good to excellent especially considering age of the dolls. Bride has one minor paint chip in her left side. Slight deterioration to the bodice of the Bride's costume and undergarments. 1-12970
