Featured in this lot is this Navajo "Frog Ceremony" sand painting rug by Navajo artist Mary Rielhaus circa 1960's. Provenance: EX-Shiprock Trading Post; EX- Bozeman, Montana Family Collection (was bought in 1980's see original tag). The rug features a wonderfully and professionally crafted hand spun wool construction. The features a "Frog Ceremony" design in the style of a sand painting with coloration of medium red, blue, green, white, and black set to a light brown field. Truly a very rare and uncommon Frog Ceremony rug with early age and very fine weave. The rug shows nice lazy lines in the weave. Frog - Ceremony is used cure sick person, there is twenty songs to it. After the singing is over, the sand painting is destroyed - Nattie Yazzie. The condition of this Navajo rug is well preserved with no obvious signs of damage and shows a well preserved overall condition. The measurements of this rug are 45 1/2" x 52".
