<B>ETHEL SPEARS (1903-1974)</B></I><BR><I>Woodstock Post Office</B></I>, mid 1920s<BR>Watercolor on paper<BR>10 x 15 inches (25.4 x 38.1 cm)<BR>Signed lower right<BR>Titled center<BR><BR> In the mid-1920s, Ethel Spears left the Art Institute of Chicago to spend nine months in Woodstock, New York, studying with noted artist/sculptor Alexander Archipenko. This watercolor was done at that time. It shows a lively and bustling downtown Woodstock scene in front of the Post Office. Spears' light-hearted humor is evident in just about every figure. She even paints herself into the picture behind an easel painting at the lower right.<B>Condition Report:</B> Excellent condition.
