one of the “four horsemen” of notre dame
(1903-1973). Football player and coach. He was one of the famous “Four Horsemen” of Notre Dame. ALS “Elmer,” 4pp, 7¼"x10¾", Davenport, IA, Jul 21, 1924. With transmittal envelope addressed in his holograph. A love letter to Evelyn Byrne with whom he was apparently quite smitten. In small part, “...You don’t have to try to be a good girl dear, you are a good girl—the best I know...We move so much together in different spheres, why can’t we get together in the same sphere?...I surely like all that love on paper dear, but I wish we could exchange a little personal...I could reciprocate that triple out, and may help raise the ante. I know that you are mine. I always ask for what I want, and I want you...” Boldly penned and signed. Fine.
