ALS, "Elmer", 4pp, July 19, 1924, 4to, Davenport, Iowa, a love letter from the young football star, to Evelyn Byrne, with whom he was apparently quite smitten. In part, "...I haven't taken a chance playing semi-pro ball for two years, but I am going out for baseball next year...If I tell [Knute] Rockne, when I get back, that I have been playing golf he will surely put me on the pan...This Helen Becker...I can place her...Henry told us she was engaged, but that she liked to meet Notre Dame fellows...I surely wish that you would carry out that threat - not to run away, but to come to me...I am surely hoping & wishing for a little 'get together'..."
