El Lissitzky (Lazar Markovich Lissitzky, Russian, 1890-1941) Russian Avant-garde artist, Suprematist, Constructivist, and developer of the of the Proun, offset lithograph of the famous Soviet propaganda poster “Beat the Whites with the Red Wedge” abstracted allegory of the Russian Civil War of 1919. The two-color lithograph on wove paper, which according to Peter White has as few as 2000 original prints in the original run, measures 69.0 by 48.6 cm. Printed between 1919 and 1920. Very strong impression with slight skewing of registers. Markings and in-plate imperfections and nuances match known extant versions. No folds or creases, corners have pin holes, and bottom edge has feathered tear one of which nearly crosses the lower right “Unvis” mark, right-center edge is has a 4mm hanging tear, and age consistent, but slight overall yellowing of the paper. Reverse edge pencil-marked "RWD" Poster needs restoration, stored rolled. Overall in very good condition.
