EINSTEIN, ALBERT
(1879 - 1955) American physicist whose Theory of Relativity and studies of mass and energy relationships revolutionized the field of physics. Superb content T.L.S. "A. Einstein" on his Princeton letterhead, 1p. 4to., Princeton, Nov. 21, 1933, in German to Professor L. Vaughan of the University of Arkansas, responding to a questionnaire sent by him regarding spiritual awakening and moral life which was compiled, with others, in a 1941 book entitled Temples and Towers. In part: "...I have the strong impression that we are living in a period of moral recession. There is no doubt that the feeling for the value of human life and for the rights of men was livelier in the last century than in our own time, among the well-educated as well as the masses. I am sorry to be forced to say this...however, it is my conviction". File holes to left margin, otherwise very good condition. A most historically relevant and evocative letter.
