The model in the present and three following lots is Xenia Andreyevna Kashevaroff, Xenia Cage, after marrying the musician John Cage in 1935. The couple was married for ten years. Xenia was an artist, collaborator and friend to many in the New York City art scene during the forties and fifties. She was photographed in 1933 by Weston, at the age of twenty, two years before marrying Cage. Later in life Xenia became the print conservator at the Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum. She died in 1995 and had these prints in her possession until her death.
