60. [EDWARD H. BOHLIN]

(1895-1980). Swedish-born saddlemaker and silversmith who began his career with the help of Buffalo Bill Cody as a cowpuncher on a Montana ranch. His “Catalog of ‘The World’s Finest’ Riding Equipment Accessories and Silver & Leather Goods,” 332pp, 8vo, Hollywood, 1941. First Edition. This bound volume is intact except for back cover which has been replaced with cardboard; cover evidences some wear and light creasing; o/w in very good condition. Bohlin almost single-handedly developed the style of equipment—gun belts, spurs, saddles and buckles—that helped visually identify such noted film heroes and their horses as Hopalong Cassidy and his horse Topper, the Lone Ranger and Silver, Roy Rogers and Trigger, and the Cisco Kid and Diablo. Many of these exquisite silver and leather creations are still used to adorn both horses and riders in Pasadena’s famed Tournament of Roses Parade. Discriminating clients included the Emperor of Japan, the king of Saudi Arabia, Presidents Lyndon Johnson and Ronald Reagan and leaders of business and industry and equestrian show people.
