A grouping of letters and news clippings announcing information known as of August 1942, regarding circumstances of 1st Lt. Ed Tovrea's status as Missing In Action. The collection consists of a War department letter from Headquarters 31st 1st Fighter, Colonel Hawkins Commanding describing how Ed took part in a raid over France and was shot down near the coast: "Time and circumstances did not permit anyone to be certain that he parachuted to safety therefore missing in action, although very indefinite, is the only report I can send you". A letter from the Governor of Arizona to Ed's mother on State letterhead expressing his concern, a letter from the squadron chaplain, 2 telegrams from the Adj. General, a caring letter from the Squadron leader Capt. J.C. Robertson in 3 pages, and last, the Prescott Courier announcing Lt. Tovrea's MIA status on the front page.
