EC Magazine Lot #nn (EC, 1955) Average grade VG 4.0. In 1955 Bill Gaines, fed-up with the censorship issues that were curtailing his publishing the type and quality of comic book lines he enjoyed producing, quit publishing comics altogether and began publishing in a magazine format to escape pests like Dr. Frederic Wertham. The resulting titles used a format he called "Picto-Fiction", heavier in text than the typical comic book format, but still utilizing the exceptional talents of the artists working for EC. Here is an outstanding opportunity to nab complete "runs" (as short as they were) of four magazine titles at one time. It's difficult enough to find any of these books in any grade! This lot includes Crime Illustrated #1 (VG+ 4.5) and #2 (FN 6.0); Confessions Illustrated #1 (FN- 5.5) and #2 (GD+ 2.5); Terror Illustrated #1 (VG+ 4.5) and #2 (VG+ 4.5); and Shock Illustrated #1 (Apparent VG- 3.5 back cover trimmed), #2 (Apparent VG- 3.5 color touches), and #3 (Apparent VG 4.0 small tear seals and slight color touch on spine). The latter book is particularly difficult to find, having a very low original print run. Covers and art by the likes of Ingels, Crandall, Craig, Krigstein, Davis, Evans, Orlando, Kamen, Wood, Sultan, and Williamson. Overstreet 2002 value for the Lot = $423.
