Victoria Queen, Gold, Mohur, 11.66g, 1841, “.W.W incused”, Divided legend, Calcutta Mint, Cross-bar of numeral 4 of date without serif, Obv: Bust facing to left, “.W.W” incuse on truncation of neck, English legend & date “VICTORIA QUEEN 1841”, Rev: A Lion facing to left in front of a Palm tree, English legend “EAST INDIA COMPANY, ONE MOHUR” & In Persian “EK ASHARFI” (Unlisted in Pridmore). Extremely fine to extremely fine+, extremely rare. This is an interesting specimen as the mint mark is “.W.W (Dot W Dot W)” than the usual “W.W. (W Dot W Dot)” and the legends is also smaller. Initial W. W. is for William Wyon, Chief engraver, Royal Mint London 1828 to 1851.
