Cal. 577 Snyder. S# 3663. The 26" dovetailed bbls. of superb laminated Damascus are engraved "H. W. Egg 1 Piccadilly, London" (working 1870-1883) in unmatted portion of attractively matted full length rib. Rifle is sighted w/ 1 standing 3 folding rear express sight marked for 1, 2, & 3 hundred yards & silver bead front. Bbl. flats are stamped w/ black powder proofs for 25 bore (577). Bottoms of bbls. w/ serial numbers. A sling eye is soldered to bottom rib. Rnd. bodied Jones underlever action is fitted w/ backsrping locks having rnd. bodied serpentine hammers w/ tall spurs & short noses. Locks are fitted w/ back sliding stalking safeties. Action & locks are engraved w/ about 80% coverage well cut open scroll. Each lockplate is engraved "H. W. EGG" at top. Serial number is on trigger guard tang which extends to steel grip cap. Capped pistol grip buttstock of fiddle figured European walnut measures 14 5/8" over steel buttplate w/ spur. Classic point pattern checkering is at grip & a sling eye as well as a vacant silver oval are on toeline. Matching splinter forend has spring tension roller release. MEASUREMENTS: STOCK: DAH: approx. 2 5/8". DAC: approx 1 3/4". LOP: 14 5/8". CAST: Neutral. WEIGHT: 9 lb. 11 oz. CONDITION: good as refinished. Bbls. retaining most of a rebrown w/ good definition to pattern. Action, locks & other metal parts show considerable cleaning to silver & gray over black & brown splotches w/ light frosting. Engraving is mostly clear but considerably softened at grip. Stocks retain most of an old oil refinish over some deep marks & w/ a lg. number of subsequent marks & dings. Checkering considerably worn. Buttplate considerably proud of wood, especially at top. Bores are good w/ strong rifling throughout w/ light pitting throughout. Action is tight. Locks are good.
