The knob-like antler handle on this early cane is not carved, and is 2.5" high and 1.5" in maximum diameter. Thenarrow, 1/8" wide silver collar connects the handle to a stepped malacca shaft. There are holes drilled in the top partof the shaft, but the metal (they were likely silver) oval eyelets are missing. There is a narrow, .25" wide, band atthe step in the shaft, and some tool marks are visible at the bottom where the band was attached. The steel ferrule ispresently just 2" long, and has worn so far the shaft is visible on the end. The shaft style is typical of late 18th- orearly 19th century canes. There is extensive wear and nicking to the finish of the shaft, mostly from use. Overalllength, 35".(EST 400-600)
