EARLY AMERICAN GLASS 1840'S-1915 COMPOT
AMERICAN GLASS: a lot of very fine clear early American glass. All pieces date from the 1840's - 1915. One compote has been identified as a George Duncan & sons Shell and Tassel, square, patented July 26, 1881 by A.H. Heisey. A like example of this piece can be found in the Henry Ford Museum. Another of the compotes has been identified as #232 Pittsburg Glass and dates from the 1840's - 1850's. This piece represents an early example of the early process of joining pressed to molded glass. A like example is in the collection of the Bennington Museum in Bennington, Vermont. The third compote dates from 1870-1880 and was made to appear as cut glass. It also represents the joining of molded and pressed glass. The remaining pieces consist of a footed spoon holder having Egyptian figure heads alternating with palm fronds, one footed sugar bowl, one ''covered'' vase (both w/o lids) with a gothic thumb print and Old English pattern, and one covered jelly jar with a cannon on the lid and rigging on the sides. Minor age chipping and scratching noted.
