EARLY 19th CENTURY AMERICAN LODGE/FRATERNAL/SOCIETY FLAG FROM ALBANY.
EARLY 19th CENTURY AMERICAN LODGE/FRATERNAL/SOCIETY FLAG FROM ALBANY. A large, well made, flag measuring 7’ on the hoist and 14’ on the fly, made of white wool bunting with 9-1/2" tall red letters, hand sewn in cut outs so that they appear on both sides reading; “ALBANY No. 23." The flag is made of 5 strips of bunting each 12" wide with flat felled seams. The top and bottom have a 6" blue border of wool bunting with 5-point cotton stars all hand sewn in cut outs and spaced evenly along the border. The hoist has a white canvas reinforcing strip with 3 hand sewn grommets. A wonderful, folksy, flag in very elongated rectangular form presumably from Albany, New York. The use of this flag is not immediately apparent from its design but the presence of the number “23" seems to be related to a chapter or lodge of some fraternal or societal organization. Its construction details definitely place this in the early to mid-19th century. CONDITION: Very good. All colors have retained an aged but good appearance. Slight losses, here and there, with no major faults. 4-49172 CW
