EARL MACPHERSON

Pastel Pinup Artwork (24" x 38")
Very Fine On Brown Manila Paper; Artwork by Earl MacPherson
Shaw-Barton, Inc. Advertising, 1940s

Born in Oklahoma in 1910, Earl MacPherson rose to prominence during the golden age of pinup art with his "Artist Sketch Pad" style. Following his studies at the Chouinard School of Art in Los Angeles and time spent in Hawaii, he painted portraits of the Earl Carroll Girls in Hollywood in the late 1930s. He later worked for Brown and Bigelow in Minnesota, where he developed the widely celebrated "Artist Sketch Pad." Subsequently, he created the "MacPherson Sketchbook" calendar for Shaw-Burton, which enjoyed an 11-year production run.

This is an original pinup artwork by Earl MacPherson, featuring two women is executed in pastel. The piece was created for Shaw-Barton, Inc., established in 1940, known for its calendars and specialty advertising. The poster is lightly tacked at the top two corners to foam core and will be shipped as such. Due to its size, shipping will be more costly. Each corner of the image has a tack hole, but the rest remains pristine. A small press clipping is included, which depicts the artwork on display in Minnesota during the early to mid-1940s.
