This is a fantastic item for the Early American Pattern Glass collector. The platters or trays with the milk glass insert is very hard to find. This milkglass center bread tray depicts two women clinging or climbing a large rock toward the cross that is embossed "SIMPLY TO THY CROSS I CLING". At the base of the rock is embossed "ROCK OF AGES" in much smaller lettering. On the clear glass surrounding the milkglass center is embossed "Pat. Nov. 23, 1875" and in larger letters "GIVE US THIS DAY - OUR DAILY BREAD". The platter measures 12 3/4" long from handle to handle by 9" wide and 1-1/4" deep. It is in beautiful condition with no chips, flakes or cracks but there are some bubbles and straw marks. All edges remain as sharp as it came from the mold. The Tray is pictured in "American Historical Glass" by Bessie M. Lindsey at page 248, plate 236.
