This is a neat pressed glass shoe made by Gillinder & Sons for, and at, the 1876 Philadelphia Centennial Exposition. The shoe is frosted. There is an embossed mark inside the bottom of the shoe which reads: GILLINDER & SONS, CENTENNIAL EXHIBITION. Gillinder & Sons was formed around 1867. In 1876 the company built an exhibition glass factory in Philadelphia on the site of the American Centennial Exhibition. This shoe was one of the souvenir items produced for that exhibition. The shoe measures 2-1/2? high at the heel, 6" long and 2? wide at the bow. There may be some bubbles and straw marks and some very small pin point flakes along the edges and corners, and the white square you see on the bottom is tag residue. There are no chips, flakes or cracks. All in all this is a beautiful item in great condition for its 131 years of existence.
