<td width="100%">
The Paneled Wheat pattern is a beautiful one made by Hobbs, Brockunier & Co. Glass of Wheeling, WV circa 1871. Design patent #4689 was granted on February 28, 1871 and it was designed by J. H. Hobbs. It is a very elegant design as opposed to the design of Blackberry which is a little more busy. This open sugar bowl is 5-1/8" tall at the rim and 3-5/8" in diameter. The foot is 2-5/8" in diameter. The design consists of six panels containing a shock of wheat on the lower half of the body this is in very high relief. There are many variances in this pattern as well. Some pieces have a ringed stem, as this one does, or plain. A Spoon Holder may have a scalloped rim or a milled edge, or a straight smooth one. Sugars come with or without a spoon rack. And there are at least 4 different styles of butters that I am aware of. This open sugar or, as some call it, a Butter Milk Goblet, is in excellent condition with no chips, flakes or cracks.
