This is a beautiful amethyst open sugar in the Croesus pattern by Riverside Glass Works of Wellsburgh, WV circa 1897 who produced it in clear. The pattern was also produced by McKee & Brothers of Pittsburgh, PA circa 1901 in Amethyst and Green colors. This little breakfast sugar is 3-3/4" tall and 2-3/4" in diameter at the rim and is barrel shaped with three legs. The backs of the legs are stippled. I do not believe this is a reproduction because of the quality of the gold decoration, the semitry of the design and the stippling of the feet. Sugar bowls were often offered in catalogs with and without the lids. I see no scratches on the rim too indicate there ever was a lid, but of course, there is more value with a lid. This sugar books for $500.00 with the lid. There may be some bubbles and straw marks but there are no chips, flakes or cracks.
