This is a beautiful Challinor Taylor blue Opaque Scrolls open compote in blue and white slag or marble glass. The compote was made by Challinor, Taylor and Co. of Pittsburgh, PA. circa 1885 - 1893 and measures 8" in height and 7-1/2" in diameter. This is one of the boldest and most striking of glass designs in very high relief. This is not a reproduction. On the Imperial Glass reproduction, the ball on the stem is only held by three barred columns and has a hexagonal base. While this one is held by four barred columns and has the original round base. The bowl and stem are connected by a wafer of glass. This compote comes in the six sided bowl and a round bowl, and both on the same stem. There is a small flat chip on the edge of the of one scallops on the rim and one on the stem at the wafer as shown in the second photo. The one on the stem looks like a popped bubble. There is also a popped bubble on one scroll that has made a hole in the glass. There may be some other bubbles and straw marks but there are no other chips, flakes or cracks.
