This is a beautiful pattern called Chain With Star. This cake stand was made by Bryce Brothers Glass Co. of Pittsburge, PA., circa 1882. The pattern was continued by The United States Glass Corp after their merger of 1891. The original name of the pattern was Bryce No. 79. The pattern is also known as Chain; and as Frosted Chain. The stand and the plate are wafer joined. It is 5" tall and 9-3/4" in diameter at the upturned scalloped rim. The foot is 4-1/4" in diameter. The plate has seen heavy use in its 126 years of service and is showing a lot of untensil marks. There are also a few bubbles and straw marks but there are no chips, flakes or cracks.
