Cal. 45-70. S# 526. Chambered in what is perhaps today's' most popular cartridge, this rifle has 26" tapered oct. bbl. fitted w/ German silver blade front sight. Rear portion of top flat is marked "E. Remington & Sons Ilion" w/ the remainder obscured by added dovetail. It & standard dove tail are plugged. Matching S# is at rear of bottom flat under forend. Cal. marking is in front. Typical action w/ side lever on right side is marked "Hepburn Patent" & date on right. Top tang is fitted w/ reproduction Vernier type midrange sight. American walnut, rnd. knob buttstock measure 14 1/8" over Remington style steel buttplate. Point pattern checking is at grip. Long matching forend has schnabled steel tip. CONDITION: good. Metal parts are an overall brown patina w/ silvering on sharp edges. Stocks w/ weathered appearance appear to have been cleaned & have added oil. Checkering is mostly clogged w/ oil. Right panel w/ old attempt at recutting. Bore is good w/ strong rifling throughout but considerable pitting. Mechanically good. (01-19395/MGM). ANTIQUE. $2,000-2,500.
