<B>E. L. Doctorow: Signed </B></I><B><I>Ragtime</B></I></B></I> (New York: Random House, 1975), first edition, 270 pages, green-cloth binding with gold lettering and decorations, orange endpapers, 8vo (9.5” x 6.25”), dust jacket (in protective sleeve). E. L. Doctorow (b. 1931) won the National Book Critics Circle Award for <I>Ragtime</B></I>, which was filmed in 1981 by director Milos Forman, who persuaded the legendary James Cagney to end a 20-year retirement to star as NYPD Commissioner Rhinelander Waldo. The front endpaper is inscribed and signed <I>“Best wishes / to Dr Roger L. Brooks / E. L. Doctorow”</B></I>. A bookplate is affixed inside the front cover.
