Signed book: Essays on E. B. White. First edition. NY: Harper & Row, 1977. Hardcover with dust jacket, 6.5 x 9.5, 277 pages. Signed and inscribed to his neighbors on the first free end page in black ballpoint, "Alan and Chapie, Lord and Lady of High Head, with love from, Andy, N. Brooklin." Lower right of signed page bears a pair of ownership stamps belonging to Alan Bemis, with one marked as being from "High Head, Brooklin, ME." In fine condition, with some tears and sunning to the dust jacket. White received the nickname "Andy" as a student at Cornell University, where tradition confers that moniker on any male student whose surname is White, after Cornell co-founder Andrew Dickson White.
