Dwight Eisenhower autograph letter signed to his wife, Mamie, dated 16 October [1944] as Supreme Commander of Allied Expeditionary Forces. Here, Eisenhower speaks primarily of his son John's stationing in the 71st Division. One-page letter in ink reads in full: ''Darling -- This is Monday; again I'm waiting to start a trip, this time from my forward CP. A teletype from the W.D. says John is going to 71st Div. That is fine, because it will be commanded by Gen. W.G. Wyman, a grand soldier. I will have a hard time keeping from 'interfering' -- I'm so wrapped up in that boy -- but I keep reminding myself that he is a man, with a man's job to do and his own career to make. How I wish I dared go and stay with him. Well sweet, I'm sure you understand that my short scrawls mean lots more than they say; principally that I think of you all the time and never cease wishing I were with you, with no more prospects of parting! This is a 'hek' of a life. I must run. Take care of yourself and don't forget me! I love you, always, your Ike''. Letter measures 8'' x 10.5''. Minor toning and creasing along mail folds, else fine.
