TLS as president, one page, 8 x 10.5, White House letterhead, June 4, 1960. Letter to Dudley Whiting appointing him a member of an emergency board. In part: “I created, by Executive Order No. 10862, an Emergency Board to investigate a dispute between the Atchison, Topeka, and Santa Fe Railway Company -- Coast Lines, and certain of its employees represented by the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers…I hereby appoint you as a member and Chairman of the Board. This letter will constitute your appointment …” In very good condition, with scattered light toning and soiling, a few creases and wrinkles, and a trivial brush to signature. Accompanied by a photocopy of a press release announcing the Executive Order. In order to settle a dispute between the Atchison, Topeka, and Santa Fe Railway Company lines, President Eisenhower created an Emergency Board under Executive Order No. 10862. The Board needed three members, and Mr. Dudley E. Whiting, who had served on several Emergency Boards before, was appointed by Eiesenhower to be Chairman.
