Signed book: Mandate for Change 1953 -1956. First edition, first printing. NY: Doubleday and Company, 1963. Hardcover with slipcase, 6.5 x 9.5, 650 pages. Signed and inscribed on the half-title page to his brother Edgar: “For my eldest living brother, Edgar. With the hope that he will find this book interesting and accurate and—within reason—reflections of his own political philosophy. Devotedly, Ike. 14 October 1963.” In fine condition, with some very mild rubbing to covers and some toning to the slipcase.

Eisenhower’s older brother was an attorney known for his “shoot from the hip ultraconservative” nature, so it’s no wonder then that Ike was concerned about his reaction to this book. Several years earlier, Edgar Eisenhower had publicly criticized his brother’s “too liberal” administration and budget plan, which he saw as contradicting Ike’s campaign pledge of decreased federal spending. The president defused the situation by noting that his brother "has been criticizing me since I was five years old." A touching reminder that blood is thicker than political ideologies. Pre-certified John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA.
