War-dated TLS, one page, 8 x 10.5, Headquarters, U. S. Forces, European Theater letterhead, October 8, 1945. Recommendation written for Captain Craig Campbell. In part: “During part of that time, he has served in my office as an enlisted man as an officer. I have found him energetic, trustworthy, and devoted to duty. His conduct has been exemplary. He is endowed with a pleasing personality.”

Craig Campbell began serving as Brigadier General Eisenhower’s aide-de-camp in 1941. In late March, 1943, he accompanied Eisenhower to the front lines of the war. Campbell was taken prisoner by the Nazis and sent to Oflag 64 located in Szubin, Poland. He survived twenty-two months in captivity and was liberated by the Russians after the Nazis deserted the camp. In fine condition.
